“ದುಃಖ”
ದುಃಖ ಒಂದು ಬಿಳಿ ಆಕಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಕೂತ ಬಿಳಿ ಕೊಕ್ಕರೆ
ಒಂದು ಮಾತ್ರ ಇನ್ನೊಂದರ ತೂಕ ಸಹಿಸ ಬಲ್ಲದು
ದುಃಖ ನದಿತೀರದ ಬಿಳಿ ಮರಳು
ಅದು ಒದ್ದೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗಲೂ ಬಿಳಿಯೇ.
ದುಃಖ ಬೇಲಿ ಮೇಲಣ ಬಿಳಿ ದಾಸವಾಳ
ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಬಿಳಿ ಮೊಗ್ಗು, ಬಿಳಿ ಹೆಣ.
ದುಃಖ ಮಂಜು-ಮುಸುಕಿದ ಮರ, ಬಿಳಿ ರೆಪ್ಪೆಗೂದಲು
ಅದರ ಹೆಣೆಗಳು ತಮ್ಮದೇ ತೂಕದಿಂದ ಜೋಲುತ್ತವೆ.
ದುಃಖ ಕಾಡಾನೆಯ ದಂತ, ಚೂಪು, ವರ್ಷಾನುವರ್ಷಗಳ ಶೇಖರಣೆ
ಅದರ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯ, ಶೋಭೆ ದೂರದಿಂದ ಮಾತ್ರ.
ದುಃಖ ಕಣ್ಣ ಬಿಳಿಪಾಪೆ, ನೋವು ತೊಟ್ಟಿಕ್ಕುವ ಪರದೆ
ಅದು ತನ್ನ ತಾ ತೊಳೆದು, ಕೆಂಪಾಗಿ, ಮತ್ತೆ ಬಿಳಿಗೆ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ
ದುಃಖ ಒಂದು ಸಂಗ್ರಹಾಲಯ, ಬಿಳಿ ಗೋಡೆ ಮೇಲಿನ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳು
ನಾವದನು ಬಿಟ್ಟರೂ, ಅದು ಬಿಡದು ನಮ್ಮನು

Sadness is a white crane on a white cow.
Only one can bear the weight of another.
Sadness is white sand on a river bank.
It is white even when wet.
Sadness is white hibiscus resting on a fence.
It has a white bud and a white corpse.
Sadness is a snow-covered tree, eyelashes of white.
Its branches droop with its own weight.
Sadness is a wild elephant’s tusk, sharp, a deposition of years.
It has beauty and grace only from a distance.
Sadness is the sclera, the screen from which hurt drips.
It washes itself, tinges red and becomes white again.
Sadness is a museum, pictures on white walls.
You leave it but it never leaves you.
