ಬೋಳು ತಲೆ ಕಣ್ಣಲ್ಲಿ ಚಾಳೀಸು
ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋಲು
ಮುಖದಲೊಂದು ಮಾಗಿದ ನಗೆಯ
ಗಾಂಧಿ ನನ್ನೊಳಗೆ ನೀನು
ತಾತನಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿದೆ

ಹೆಡ್ ಮಾಸ್ತರರ ಕೋಣೆಯ
ಗೋಡೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ
ಪೋಟೋದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀನಿದ್ದೆ
ವರುಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂರು ಬಾರಿ
ನನ್ನ ಕೈಗೂ ನಿಲುಕಿ
ಚೌಕಟ್ಟು ತಿಕ್ಕಿ ಗಾಜು ಒರೆಸಿ
ಹೂಮಾಲೆ ಹಾಕಿ ಜೈಕಾರ ಕೂಗಿ
ಲಡ್ಡು ತಿನ್ನುವಾಗ
ಬಾಯಿ ತುಂಬ ಸಿಹಿ
ಮನದಲ್ಲಿ ಖುಷಿ

ಬೆಳೆದಂತೆ ನಾನು ನೀನೂ ಬೆಳೆದೆ
ತಾತ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಾದೆ
ಸರಳ ಸತ್ಯ ಅಹಿಂಸೆಗಳ
ಸಾಕಾರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾದೆ
ಬೆಳಕಾದೆ

ಧಮನಿಯಲಿ ಬಿಸುಪು
ಮನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುರುಪು
ತುಂಬಿದ್ದ ಕಾಲದಲಿ
ಹೊನಲಿಗೆದುರು ಈಜುವ ಕನಸಿತ್ತು
ಕಂಗಳಲಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಬಿಂಬವಿತ್ತು

ನಿನ್ನ ಹಾಗೆ ಚಾಳೀಸು
ನನಗೂ ಬಂದಿದೆ ಈಗ
ಕಚೇರಿಯ ನನ್ನ ಕುರ್ಚಿಯ ಹಿಂದೆ
ನಿನ್ನ ಪಟ ತೂಗು ಹಾಕಿರುವೆ

ಕಣ್ಣಾಡಿಸುವೆ ಹೆಣ್ಣಿನ ಮೇಲೆರಿಗಿದ
ರಕ್ಕಸರ ಎಫ್ ಐ ಆರ್
ಪ್ರತಿಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ
ಪಾನಮತ್ತ ಪಿಶಾಚಿ ಪತಿಯ
ಕತೆ ಹೇಳುವ ಡಿ ಐ ಆರ್ ನ
ಪುಟಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ
ಹತ್ತಿಕ್ಕುವೆ ಎದೆಯೊಳಗೆ
ಭುಗಿಲೇಳುವ ಹೊನಲ
ಅದು ಪಾದಮಸ್ತಕಾದಿಯಾಗಿ ಹರಿದು
ಪೆನ್ನಿನ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ತಬ್ದವಾಗುವುದು

ಬಾಪೂ ನಿನ್ನ ಚರಿತೆ
ಅರಿವುದೆಷ್ಟು ಸುಖವೋ
ಆ ಹಾದಿಯ ತುಳಿವ
ಸುಖವೂ ನನ್ನೀ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕಿರಲಿ

My Gandhi..

Bald head,spectacled eyes,
A stick in hands,
A smile on ur wrinkled face,
Gandhi you were born as a
Grandpa in me.

You were in a photo
On a wall of the chamber
Of our headmaster.
Even I could reach you
Thrice in a year.

When we were eating a laddu
After scrubbing the frame,
Cleaning the glass,
Decorating with a garland,
And hailing a Jai
Sweetness in my mouth,
And happiness filled my heart.

You too grew along with me,
Grandpa became a Mahatma,
You became an embodiment
Of simple truth,non violence
And lit our path.

At a time when there was
Warmth in veins, spirit in the heart,
Dreamt of swimming against the tide,
Your image was in my eyes.

Now I too have got
spectacles like you.
Hanging a portrait of yours
On the wall behind my chair
In my office.

I am glancing the FIRs
Of the devils who pounced
Upon the girls.
DIR pages telling the stories
Of drunken demonic husbands.

I Control the flamming river
In my heart,that flows throughout
From head to toe
and settles at the tip of the pen.

Bapu, how cheerful I become
knowing your story,
Let the same happiness fill my soul,
While treading your path.
