ಪಕ್ಕದ ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಇದ್ದ ಬಾಡಿಗೆದಾರನೊಬ್ಬ
ಹೇಳದೆ ಕೇಳದೆ ರಾತ್ರಿ
ಹೊರಟು ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ

ನಾಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ
ನನ್ನ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಮಗಳ
ಜೀನ್ಸ್ ಪ್ಯಾಂಟನ್ನು ಹರವುವಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲ
ಕೆಂಪು ಕಣ್ಣಿನಲಿ ನೋಡಿ
“ಸರಿಯಿಲ್ಲ ಸರಿಯಿಲ್ಲ”
ಎನ್ನುತ್ತ ದಢಾರನೆ ಬಾಗಿಲು ಹಾಕಿ
ಶತಪಥ ತಿರುಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದವ

ಹಗಲಿರುಳೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯ ಕಡೆಯೇ ದಿಟ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತ
ಬಾಗಿಲಲ್ಲಿ ಕೂತು
ಅವನ ಸಂಕಟ ನೋಡಲಾಗದೆ
” ನಿನಗ್ಯಾಕೊ ನಮ್ಮಗಳ ಉಸಾಬರಿ”
ಎಂದಿದ್ದೆ
ದನಿ ಜೋರಾಯಿತೋ ಏನೋ
ಎದೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಅದೆಷ್ಡು ಮಾತುಗಳಿದ್ದವೊ
ಒಂದನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಳ್ಳದೆ
ಮನೆಯ ಗೋಡೆಯ ತುಂಬೆಲ್ಲ
ಮಸಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಗೀಚಿ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ

ಅದೆಷ್ಟು ಕೋಪವ ಎದೆಯ ಪುಪ್ಪಸದಲಿ
ಅಡಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದನೊ
ಮನೆಯ ಹೆಂಚು ಕಿಟಕಿ
ಬಾಗಿಲು
ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ಮುರಿದು ಹಾಕಿದ್ದಾನೆ
ಒತ್ತಿ ಹೋಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ
ಸಾಕಷ್ಡು ಕುರುಹುಗಳ ಸುತ್ತಲು
ಯಾರು ಬಂದರು ತಳ ಊರದಂತೆ

ಒಂದಿಷ್ಡು ಕಸ ತೆಗೆಸಿ ಚೊಕ್ಕಗೊಳಿಸಿ
ಸುಣ್ಣಬಣ್ಣ ಬಳಿಸಿದರೆ ಯಾರಾದರು ಬಂದು ಉಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಾರು

ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಮನೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕದಿದ್ದರೆ
ಪಾಪ ಅವನು?

A tenant living next door
has gone away,last night,
All of a sudden
without telling anyone..

Absconding he is,
The one who used to stare angrily,
whenever I went to dry
the jeans of my little daughter,
And used to slam the door
Saying” not okay, not okay “
Pacing to and fro,with unease .

Day and night sitting at his door
used to stare at mine.
Unable to bear his grunt,
Said I “why are you bothered
so much about us”
My voice might have been on a high ,
So much might be hiding
in his chest to say,
Without revealing anything
Gone away scribbling all upon
the wall in charcoal.

Who knows,
How much anger he was hiding,
Inside his rib cage,
He has broken all the roof tiles,
doors and windows of the house.
Has gone away, leaving behind
enough imprints around,
To make sure not to let
anyone to settle down.

Tchah,

If it’s cleaned removing
all the cobwebs,
And painted anew,
Then someone may come
and stay here.

What if the poor fellow
Doesn’t get
any home
any where?
